Open Word Document - passing in a binary array not physical file

Mar 20, 2013 at 4:37 PM
I need to store Word documents within a DB as a BLOB and I would like to be able to directly open/display the contents without writing the BLOB out as a DOCx first.

Is this possible?

I'm also very interested in finding a solution to open a Word/Excel/... document using a byte array without writing temporary files to disk.

Looking at the NetOffice API there's the NetOffice.WordApi.Application().Documents.Open(...) method. This method requires a filename as its first parameter but I can see no way to get rid of binary data. Is this a misunderstanding of the COM proxy management or currently not supported by NetOffice?

Any help would be very appreciative.

Same here, would love to be able to open and save workbooks without them having to touch disk. Can someone gice some pointers on how this could be possible?
