Office 2016 support

Mar 17, 2015 at 1:46 PM
Hi Sebastian,

NetOffice is a very good library to develop native office Addins. I have ported our VSTO-Addin to your library. Now we have fast start up times and we do not need the ugly VSTO-Runtime anymore.

Great work!

It would be nice when your library can support Office 2016 in the near future. Today I have installed the preview of Office 2016 and your library gave me an error message box in Outlook:

"Initialize: Outlook version is not defined. SetOutlookVersion."

Kirk Koenigsbauer wrote in his Blog:

"We’re not making any changes to Macros or Add-ins in this release. It’s rare that “no changes” is a something we’d want to highlight, but we think it’s worth celebrating the consistency in the programming model across releases. We understand how important this is and we’re committed to a high level of compatibility as we continue to innovate."

So I think that the Office 2016 API is full compatible to the Office 2013 API.

state notification: waiting for microsoft agree my submission.

btw: "Initialize: Outlook version is not defined. SetOutlookVersion."
this is not a netoffice exception message. generaly.
(I see no reason why NetOffice currently doesnt works with 2016.
Just some limitations, new features not available and missing attribute/documentation support)

Hi Sebastian,

I have created a new simple Outlook-Addin with NetOffice 1.7.3. Now it works. I don't now why but the message box is gone.

Thanks for your support!

Office 2016 does not introduce any new features for add-ins:
Macros and Add-ins—We’re not making any changes to Macros or Add-ins in this release. It’s rare that “no changes” is a something we’d want to highlight, but we think it’s worth celebrating the consistency in the programming model across releases. We understand how important this is and we’re committed to a high level of compatibility as we continue to innovate. (See dev.office.com for more on how we’re innovating in Office extensibility.)

Hi Sebastian,

I haven't personally tried NetOffice with Office 2016 yet and you may be aware of the open availability of Office 2016 Preview already. But just in case, here's where you can get it:

https://products.office.com/en-us/office-2016-preview

They have a key posted right on that page and I didn't need to sign in to download the installer.

Hopefully it just works without too much effort. NetOffice is a great product and I'm very happy seeing that you're interested in continuing to support it.

Mike
